Journal History
1994 — Establishment
SASI was established in 1994 and has been published by the Faculty of Law, Universitas Pattimura, Indonesia. The first Editor-in-Chief was George Leasa, S.H. At that time, SASI did not yet have an ISSN. The journal was published four times a year.
2003 — Print ISSN
On January 14, 2003, SASI, Volume 9, was assigned the print ISSN 1693-0061.
2015 — Publication Frequency
Beginning in 2015, with Volume 21, SASI changed its publication frequency to two issues per year, published in June and December.
2017 — Online Publication and Open Access
In 2017, with Volume 23 No. 2, SASI received the online ISSN 2614-2961 and began publishing through OJS (Open Journal Systems). During this transition, Muchtar Anshary Hamid Labetubun became the new Editor-in-Chief, the editorial team was restructured, and peer reviewers were formally added to the journal's editorial process. SASI also introduced a new cover design and article template.
In the same year, SASI adopted an open-access publishing model, making its published articles freely available online.
2019 — DOAJ and First National Accreditation
In 2019, SASI was indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
In September 2019, SASI received its first national journal accreditation, Grade 3 (SINTA 3), from the Director General of Strengthening Research and Development, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia. The accreditation was granted through Decree No. 28/E/KPT/2019 and was valid from Volume 24 No. 1 (January–June 2018) through Volume 28 No. 1 (January–June 2022).
Beginning with Volume 25 No. 2 (July–December 2019), SASI adopted a new article template.
2020 — Quarterly Publication and DOI
In 2020, SASI increased its publication frequency to four issues per year, published in March, June, September, and December. The number of articles per issue was also increased, with some issues containing up to eleven articles.
In August 2020, SASI registered its DOI prefix with Crossref.
Beginning with Volume 26 No. 3 (July–September 2020), SASI introduced another new article template.
On September 10, 2020, SASI submitted its application for national journal re-accreditation.
2021 — SINTA 2 Accreditation
On December 9, 2021, SASI received Grade 2 (SINTA 2) national accreditation from the Ministry of Research and Technology / National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia. The accreditation was valid from Volume 23 No. 3 (2020) through Volume 31 No. 2 (2025).
2022 — New Cover Design
Beginning with Volume 28 No. 1 in 2022, SASI introduced a new cover design. The article title was removed from the cover and replaced with an image of woven yellow janur, which serves as a symbolic visual identity of SASI.
2025 — New Focus and Scope
Beginning with the December 2025 edition, SASI revised its focus and scope to emphasize issues of legal pluralism among indigenous peoples, with particular attention to the role of customary law and local wisdom.
2026 — Renewal of SINTA 2 Accreditation
In February 2026, SASI received renewed national accreditation at Grade 2 (SINTA 2) from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
The accreditation was granted through Decree No. 0110/C3/DT.05.00/2026 and is valid from Volume 31 No. 1 (2025) through Volume 35 No. 2 (2029).
Today, SASI continues its publication as a peer-reviewed, open-access law journal published by the Faculty of Law, Universitas Pattimura, with a particular emphasis on legal pluralism, customary law, indigenous peoples, and local wisdom.
