Updated Author Guidelines and Manuscript Template for BALLREV

Batulis Civil Law Review (BALLREV) has updated its Author Guidelines and manuscript template to provide clearer and more comprehensive guidance for authors in preparing and submitting manuscripts.

The updates are intended to strengthen transparency, research integrity, authorship accountability, and ethical standards throughout the publication process. Authors are expected to carefully review the updated requirements and use the latest manuscript template when preparing submissions.

The updated guidance includes the following:

1. Author Contributions

BALLREV now provides a more detailed framework for reporting individual author contributions using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). Authors are required to clearly identify the contributions of each author using the applicable CRediT roles.

The updated guidelines provide definitions for the 14 CRediT contributor roles, including Conceptualization, Methodology, Software, Validation, Formal Analysis, Investigation, Resources, Data Curation, Writing – Original Draft, Writing – Review & Editing, Visualization, Supervision, Project Administration, and Funding Acquisition.

Examples are also provided for both single-author and multi-author manuscripts to help authors prepare their Author Contributions Statement correctly.

2. Acknowledgments

The updated guidelines clarify that the Acknowledgments section should be used to recognize individuals or organizations that provided substantive assistance to the research or manuscript preparation but whose contributions do not qualify for authorship.

Financial or research funding should not be reported as part of the Acknowledgments section. Funding information must be disclosed separately.

3. Funding Disclosure

A dedicated Funding statement has been introduced to ensure transparent disclosure of financial or material support that directly contributed to the research or preparation of the manuscript.

Authors should identify the funding organization and, where applicable, the relevant grant, contract, or project number, as well as the role of the funder in the research and publication process.

Authors whose research received no specific funding are also required to provide an appropriate no-funding statement.

4. Conflict of Interest

The updated guidelines provide clearer requirements for the disclosure of financial and non-financial conflicts of interest.

Authors are expected to disclose relationships, activities, affiliations, or interests that could influence, or could reasonably be perceived to influence, the research, interpretation of findings, or publication of the manuscript.

The updated manuscript template also provides a standard statement for authors who have no relevant conflict of interest.

5. Ethical Considerations and Ethical Clearance

The guidelines provide clearer instructions for reporting ethical considerations and Ethical Clearance, particularly for research involving human participants, personal data, or other activities requiring ethical approval.

Where applicable, authors must provide the name of the approving ethics committee and the Ethical Clearance number and year. Where formal Ethical Clearance is not applicable, authors should provide an appropriate statement explaining the ethical considerations applicable to the research.

6. Use of Artificial Intelligence

BALLREV has strengthened its requirements concerning the use and disclosure of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools.

Authors who use AI tools in preparing, analyzing, translating, generating, editing, or otherwise producing manuscripts or research outputs must comply with the journal's AI Tools Usage Policy.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of their manuscripts. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

The updated template provides examples for manuscripts where AI was not used and where AI-assisted tools were used, including disclosure of the AI tool, version, developer/provider, purpose, and extent of use.

Authors are strongly encouraged to review the complete AI Tools Usage Policy before submitting a manuscript.

These updated requirements will apply to manuscripts intended for publication beginning with:

Authors preparing manuscripts for this issue and subsequent issues should use the updated Author Guidelines and the latest manuscript template.
